New Perspectives in a New Season
I’m delighted to say that Season 2 of “Skeletons in the Closet: Family Secrets” dropped today!
In Season 2, with co-creator Professor Robert Vitt, we take on the enormous task of examining the intricacies of the JFK assassination. Despite the crime being caught on film, there is very little agreement among experts as to what happened and who was involved, and even less agreement on internet discussion boards. Professor Vitt and I are working together to provide a zoomed-out view of the assassination with multiple perspectives to provide as nuanced a context for Guy’s story as possible. It’s impossible to understand why Guy’s story is so hotly contested without knowing the history, culture, and settings of both New Orleans, Dallas, and the nation at large.
I have an enduring distaste for narratives, which are often biased perspectives that are presented as an objective truth. My relationship to Guy Banister is a two-edged sword when it comes to perspectives. My proximity to family members that remember him allows me access to invaluable information, but it also creates a mountain of assumptions regarding my motives, and while I’m usually treated well both online and as a guest, there are those that assume that I’m an apologist or allow a self-serving bias to guide what I’m writing and producing on the podcast.
In real life, I’m a daughter, a mother, a wife, a teacher, a musician, and a child, and part of growing into this new role as a podcaster is reminding myself that the mountain of assumptions will be too high to climb for some people, and that I need to focus on those willing to hear what I have to say.
You can listen to “Skeletons in the Closet: Family Secrets” on every major platform. (Except YouTube. I’m working on that.")
