Dapper Jackalope is the brainchild of Janet and Aaron in Miles City, MT, and Robert is a welcome and much respected co-host and leader in his field.
Janet Banister Morgenstern is a small school K-12 music teacher and sociology adjunct instructor for a local college. A podcast detective and sociologist by night, unearthing long-buried family secrets and captivating historical true crime. As the creator of Skeletons in the Closet: Family Secrets and the co-host of Wilderness of Errors, she weaves deep research, layered storytelling, a love for all things mysterious, and a passion for changing social structures in a way that stops abuse in its tracks.
With a background in law, agriculture, and education—not to mention an unshakable true crime obsession—Janet serves up history and culture with a side of intrigue… and the occasional shenanigan. Janet’s degree and experience in sociology lends itself to a big-picture, zoomed out view of the issues at play.
Robert Vitt, a non-practicing attorney and professor of philosophy out of Long Beach, CA, is the steady hand on the lantern and the voice asking the uncomfortable follow-up question. As co-host of Skeletons in the Closet: Family Secrets and the creator of Wilderness of Errors, he brings a sharp investigative instinct, a respect for evidence, and a healthy skepticism of stories that sound a little too neat.
Robert is drawn to the spaces where history, memory, and myth collide. He’s less interested in sensational answers than in how people live with uncertainty, how narratives get inherited, and how silence shapes families across generations. When the research gets murky, he’s the one slowing things down, checking assumptions, and reminding everyone that truth is usually messier than legend.
Aaron the Sound Guy is a school principal by day and audio wizard by night, wrangling waveforms and rogue background noise with the precision of a seasoned hunter. When he’s not perfecting podcast soundscapes, you’ll find him casting a line, tracking deer, or mastering the art of smoked brisket. With a keen ear, a killer instinct for clean edits, and a toolbox full of tech skills Janet refuses to learn, Aaron keeps the chaos sounding crisp—and occasionally reminds the host to hit “record.”
In Wilderness of Errors, Robert and Janet ask critical, often unanswered questions about the errors baked into the research and dogma that surrounds the Kennedy Assassination.
In How to Not Start a Cult (Probably), Janet asks the most important unasked question in regards to cults or other toxic social systems: How do create social systems in which shitty people don’t get what they want?
In Skeletons in the Closet: Family Secrets, Janet and Robert dig through the dark and murky past of Janet’s great-uncle, Guy Banister, and they explore what really happened at Guy’s detective agency, Banister and Associates, as well as whether or not he really colluded with JFK’s assassin, Lee Harvey Oswald.
In “Who Will Teach Montana’s Kids?” Janet and Aaron research the cause behind Montana’s teacher shortage, and whether it will get worse before it gets better.
Together, Janet, Aaron and Robert produce content with a flair for the mysterious, but with a heart of good storytelling, nuance, and truth.
